In this portion of the presentation, we will briefly explore the Six North Carolina Educator Evaluation System (NCEES) Teacher Standards. This is a time to review together what the elements and indicators in Standard I and IV may "look" like so you can prepare for the observation. We will be completing an abbreviated observation after viewing the lesson on The Teaching Channel.

Section C: Rubric & Observation

I will...
  • Watch and complete the NCEES rubric for an observation.
  • Share the marks and evidence collected during the observtion.
  • Compare my comments with the "evidence checking guide".
  • Review the "summative" completed for the observations.
  • Compare and discuss my evidence with my colleagues to determine inter-rater reliability.
  • Access, review and discuss the "summative" report determined by the facilitator.
  • Compare and discuss my evidence with my colleagues to determine inter-rater reliability.


Looking through the same lens at a lesson will help us with inter-rater reliability. Always remember you must support what you mark with evidence.

Inter Rater Reliability

Your facilitator will open a NEW summative for (Your facilitator will tell you what teacher to choose in the NEW ONLINE System) by visiting the link below. Be prepared to support your 'marks' on the observation rubric for the math lesson you just observed.

This is a time to 'Check your Evidence' and support your marks with facts.






Section D: Post Conferencing

  • Discuss my role as a "coach".
  • Explore possible questions to ask teachers to help to improve.
  • Create and share questions to use during post conferences with my colleagues.

Activity: Post Conference Discussion

Review your role as a "Coach" and develop questions that will allow the teacher to experience self directed growth for the next observation. Be prepared to develop several questions you could ask during the post conference.

Post your questions on the chart paper provided and then ask someone in your team to add them to the Google form below.
